JCMS MySQL Database

1. How to verify if MySQL is installed on your computer.

The easiest way to verify that MySQL is installed, is to navigate to ‘Programs and Features’ by either searching for it using the Start Menu, or by opening the Control Panel on your computer. Once in ‘Programs and Features’, look for ‘MySQL Server x.y’, where x.y is the version number.

2. How to link tables in JCMS.

Access 2010

  • Open JCMS
  • Click the ‘External Data’ tab
  • Click on ‘ODBC Database’
  • Select ‘Link to the data source by creating a linked table’ and click ‘OK’
  • Select the ‘Machine Data Source’ tab and click ‘New…’
  • Select the data source type that you desire and click ‘Next>’
  • Scroll down to ‘MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver’, select it, and click ‘Next>’
  • Click ‘Finish’
  • Fill in the data details, the Server value will be ‘localhost’ if your database is on the local machine. User and password are your MySQL username and password. Click ‘OK’
  • Click ‘Select All’ and then click ‘OK’

Access 2007

  • Open JCMS
  • Click the ‘External Data’ tab
  • Click on ‘More’ in Import toolbar
  • Click on ‘ODBC Database’
  • Select ‘Link to the data source by creating a linked table’ and click ‘OK’
  • Select the ‘Machine Data Source’ tab and click ‘New…’
  • Select the data source type that you desire and click ‘Next>’
  • Scroll down to ‘MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver’, select it, anc click ‘Next>’
  • Click ‘Finish’
  • Fill in the data details, the Server value will be ‘localhost’ if your database is on the local machine. User and password are your MySQL username and password. Click ‘OK’
  • Click ‘Select All’ and then click ‘OK’

3. How to add MySQL to the PATH

*Do NOT remove anything from the PATH. Just add MySQL to the PATH, by carefully following the steps in this link below*

4. How to move the MySQL database to another computer

Steps to backup a MySQL JCMS database
1. Open a command window
2. To backup the database, enter:

                    mysqldump –u root –p –default-character-set=utf8 –single-transaction=TRUE –routines –triggers –events {your database name here} –> jcms_db_dmp.sql

Restore on a different computer
3. Open command line

a. Create database, enter:

mysql –u root –p –e “CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS jcms_db”

b. Restore database, enter:

mysql –u root –p jcms_db < jcms_db_dmp.sql

If you are using the JCMS Access interface, it must be relinked to the tables (see FAQ #2 above)

If you are using the JCMS Web interface on Windows, follow FAQ #3 above, only CHANGE the path to the new location of MySQL.
